Tears of Drought
Tears of Drought
Drought is one of the major environmental stresses in the north of Bangladesh that drastically limits of safe drinking water, transportation and grain yield of rice, a staple food of Bangladeshi people. Due to drink dirty and unsafe water diarrheal diseases, trachoma, intestinal worm infections, stunted growth among children and numerous other deleterious outcomes from chemical contaminants like arsenic and lead. People call the period of death and disaster.
This causes a lot of people to become unemployed and fall into acute food shortage between late August to end of December. During this interim period, there are no alternative agricultural activities left for people and the small non-agricultural sector cannot absorb the seasonally unemployed labor force.
Around 263 million people globally have access to water sources that are considered safe, but need to spend at least 30 minutes walking or queuing.
