Wooden Skeleton

I snuck away one morning in Yosemite, before anyone in my camp was awake. I used one the mountain bikes we had with us and rode as fast as I possibly could go. The fresh air filled my lungs with life as I zoomed passed the massive redwoods. What stopped me dead in my tracks was this massive decomposing tree stump.

The light was perfect, and other than a bottle of water, a helmet, and bike, all I had with me was an old Canon AE-1 with a roll of Kodak Tri-X film. I used my tools to capture the light meandering through the remains of this mighty structure.

This tree once used the light to make itself food to eat. Now, the light just eats away and bleaches this wooden skeleton.

The life cycle of these redwoods can take place over centuries, so relative to our lifespan this tree stump and the trees standing around it all seem to be frozen in time.
